Little Miss Sunshine

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE poster

Rating: 3 of 5 ★★★☆☆

I saw Little Miss Sunshine this weekend. It was everything I expected it to be, cute and fun and heart warming. What I didn’t expect is that I’d like Steve Carell so much.

I have an odd sense of humor and get annoyed by things like The 40 Year Old Virgin and most any of Jim Carrey’s early humor. I just don’t find it funny and, maybe because its trying so hard to be funny it kind of annoys me. Anyway, so I haven’t seen Steve Carell in anything that hasn’t just bothered me. I also don’t generally like Toni Collette because even though she’s a good actress most of her characters have a grating quality I don’t enjoy. Greg Kinear I’m ok with and I really like Abigail Breslin.

But Toni Collette didn’t bother me. And I really liked Steve Carell. Frank and Dwayne were my two favorite characters and their interaction with each other was great. seriously loved it. They were just so calm and honest with each other and had an odd but really believable camaraderie. And I liked them with everyone else too

(like when Dwanye told Olive to go hug their mother)

Alan Arkin’s performance wasn’t nearly worthy of an Oscar nomination, let alone a win. If it was a year to give it to an old guy just because he’s old than it should have gone to Peter O’Toole (who, yes I know, was in a different category but its the principle of it and Peter’s older than Alan and I like him better).

Overall, though, really sweet funny movie worth watching.
