Enchanted

ENCHANTED poster Disney

Rating: 2.75 of 5 ★★¾☆☆

Enchanted is pretty much everything you’d expect. It was sweet and fun and cute. I sort of hoped, after seeing the preview so often, that it would surprise me with something especially delightful or wonderful. But it was without surprise.

Patrick Dempsey isn’t my idea of anyone’s Prince Charming and James Marsden steps back into his role as the other guy and something of a buffoon. Amy Adams is quite delightful but her high pitched voice was hard to take and her character was so insubstantial. But I guess they all were.

It’s not that I’m not amused by the idea of Disney fairy tales coming to life and how discordant they are with our world. It’s that it was silly more than interesting and frivolous more than fun.

Maybe it’s just not my cup of tea. Except that I like fairy tales. I like stories about girls being more than passive princesses to be rescued. This should have been the sort of movie I could really enjoy. So, maybe I dislike it a little bit more because it wasn’t.

But I did like when the shoe fit Nancy perfectly. I like that she got her fairy tale.

Also, Patrick Dempsey?
