Ryan Reynolds| America’s Super-Suave Superhero

Posted November 14, 2016

The last time we talked to Ryan Reynolds, he was merely the handsomest, charmingest actor alive. His quirky superhero movie, Deadpool—an obsession, to put it mildly—was a few months from being released. But now, more than a year and a handful of box-office records later? He’s a superstar. A heavyweight. But it wasn’t a transformation. Ryan Reynolds tells Blake Lively we’re headed to the war room. More accurately, he tells her we’re going to the barn, which sits on an old upstate New York farm that functions as Reynolds’s family center and creative headquarters.  Why Deadpool? Because Deadpool is one of the most unique […]

Jennifer Lawrence| Star without a Script

Jennifer Lawrence| Star without a Script

Posted November 11, 2016

In a mere six years, Jennifer Lawrence has blazed past every marker of Hollywood stardom, with no sign of slowing down: next month’s science-fiction romance Passengers will be followed by movies with Steven Spielberg, Adam McKay, and Darren Aronofsky. In unreal circumstances, Lawrence is learning to assert herself as a real person, whether that means equal pay, privacy, or never being a bridesmaid again. The bar of the Plaza Athénée, an elegant Upper East Side hotel, is empty save for an elderly French couple sipping Bordeaux at two P.M. when in bursts a tall blonde crackling with energy. It is […]

Marvel Movies Ranked

Marvel Movies Ranked

Posted November 7, 2016

Variety recently released a ranking of Marvel’s movies thus far. So, of course Kel and I were discussing it and had our own rankings and I decided to post my own list. Or if you’re looking for the Marvel movies in chronological order, we’ve got that too. I didn’t count The Incredible Hulk. But if I did, it’d be way down here at the bottom anyway. A) Liv Tyler. B) ugh. I don’t even remember the plot but I remember Tim Roth was a lame bad guy.

Dr. Strange

Dr. Strange

tldr: It’s Inception meets The Matrix in super hero form. Which, how has no one done Inception meets The Matrix before? They fit too perfectly together. While I knew a bit about Dr. Strange going in, like the character’s name and his look and that he messed with reality, I didn’t really know his history or the mythology around him. So, it was quite refreshing to not know what was coming for this character as the story progressed. And it progressed a bit slowly. A bit of too close detail on medical tools in the beginning. A bit of meandering […]

The Mind-Bending Benedict Cumberbatch

The Mind-Bending Benedict Cumberbatch

Posted November 1, 2016

Starring as another alienated genius, this one with superpowers, the actor reveals his own attraction to the edge. When Benedict Cumberbatch was 19 years old, he got good and lost in the Himalayas. No longer a schoolboy, not yet the internationally known star of Sherlock and one of the world’s most unlikely sex symbols, he had taken a gap year before university to get a glimpse of life beyond A-level exams and Sunday chapel. In a hillside town near Darjeeling, he taught English to Tibetan monks, giving himself a crash course in improvisation as he conjured up instructional games. On […]

Kevin Feige Talks Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Kevin Feige Talks Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Are you past the arm-twisting phase of having to get things done? Are people more understanding your vision or at least letting your success get you past some things you might have had to push more?I mean Marvel has always been unified. It’s sort of the reason we were gonna start doing movies ourselves was to tell the stories the way we wanted to. And I don’t know why it’s the case that the actual, you know, property owners are the ones that were willing to go take further risks with their material than the licensees studios were back in […]

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War

Posted May 8, 2016

When a movie does so many things well, it’s hard to find the words. It’s a lot easier to point out flaws, to identify where it could have been better and what they should have done. But Captain America: Civil War is a solid movie; probably my favorite Captain America movie and easily up in the top 5 Marvel movies overall. I liked the plot a lot better than Winter Soldier. I like that it didn’t use montages like The First Avenger. Plus, is really funny. It’s witty and it’s true to the characters and the timing was spot on […]

The Huntsman: Winter’s War

The Huntsman: Winter’s War

I really, really wanted to love Huntsman: Winter’s War. Really. Like one of my new favorite movies kind of love. It’s fantasy action adventure which is like my perfect genre. It’s pretty and well made. It has an AMAZING song in the trailer (and I love good trailers). I wanted it to be as good as that song. As exciting. As full of passion and danger and fearlessness. It is full of interesting female characters who drive the story. And it stars Chris Hemsworth! How is this not one of the best movies ever made? Because it isn’t. And you […]

Leonardo DiCaprio On The Hard-Knock Film Education That Led To ‘The Revenant’

Posted February 1, 2016

“I’m starved, I haven’t eaten all day,” is the first thing Leonardo DiCaprio says when he arrives in a backroom at a downtown restaurant in New York. In a moment, DiCaprio has ordered what feels like everything on the menu. Even a few minutes in, you feel like you’re having dinner with a regular guy, albeit one better looking than any guy you’ve ever met, and who’s also the world’s biggest movie star. What becomes clear is DiCaprio has just as voracious an appetite for teaming with the best directors as long as they’ll challenge themselves to take the biggest […]

Leonardo DiCaprio| Man of the World

Posted January 1, 2016

These days the world-famous actor devotes much of his time and money to saving the planet, and this passion, along with his interest in history, is among the reasons that led him to star in the movie The Revenant. You frequently star in films based on real people and events in history. Why?I like stories in specific time periods. The Revenant’s era of American history was fascinating because it was this lawless no-man’s land. It defined the idea of the American frontiersman as man conquering nature. In a way, the story of Hugh Glass is about man dominating nature. Why […]
