Absolutely flawless film.
I am so in love with the characters, I don’t know what to do with myself. I love that even though Will and Elizabeth are kind of written, initially, as stock characters, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley really give them such personality and depth. Jack is so strange, but in a really wonderful way; unlike a lot of Johnny Depp’s earlier characters which are strange in a sort of off-putting way. It’s easy to love all the characters, even the villains.
The story was fun and surprising and interesting and tense and all sorts of wonderful. I loved the way it wound back itself in an actually unexpected way. I loved the pacing of and the editing which were just seamless. I loved the blending of the action and romance and humor to give the whole story so much dimension. Every single thing they did, they did well.
The dialog and the writing! were smart and innovative and archaic in a really amazing way. (and I’m sure the grammar in the script was better than that last sentence…) I love the sense of language they used and I love the plays on words they worked with. It was such a smart script and so effective.
Plus, it’s utterly beautiful from the costumes to the gorgeous blue seas and hot boys. This is the sort of movie you watch over and over and over because it’s always perfect.
