I saw Morning Glory this evening and was made aware that I’m a little shallow (this isn’t entirely news but it’s good to be reminded once in a while).

a) I’m glad that some of the promos use the tag line, “what’s the story” because it totally fits the movie and also totally acknowledges the song so it’s both tacky and appropriate. and if you’re going to be tacky, at least be appropriate about it.

b) I’d seen Patrick Wilson in a thing or two (ok, maybe just The A-Team). I wasn’t sure why they were billing him in the promos, because it’s not like he’s a big enough name to be a draw or all that hot.
Until I watched the movie. All they had to do was say that his character was an Ivy League-trust fund-champion rower and then when they said he was smokin’ I was like, “ok. he’s kinda hot.” admittedly shallow. but kinda true.

Other than that, pretty much all I have to say about it is that it’s weakly directed at times (there’s an emotional scene with two characters facing each other but the shot’s never wide enough for both of them to be seen at the same time, so there’s no connection. I kinda think they rewrote it and just did reshoots on Rachel McAdams and thought they could cheat it. and there’s, I think, 3 montages), pretty well written, pretty funny at times but not evenly paced funny (it hits you and is hilarious then nothing), good performances. All of things things make a sweet, feel good movie.
