This is a great concept full of great actors. Here’s my problem with this movie: it was really awkward and embarrassing. And I don’t like awkward and embarrassing at all. It isn’t any fun. It isn’t funny.
Comedy is hard enough for me to enjoy and even to rate because the things that make most people laugh don’t amuse me at all. So in this genre, feel free to disregard me completely. except I’m right.
There were definitely some cute moments. Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver are all awesome and I did enjoy watching them, most of the time. I even laugh here or there. Betty White was hilarious. But the director/writer wasn’t content with funny moments or cute bits; they kept going into awkward moments that embarrassed everyone and then it was just uncomfortable. So, I could never really relax and enjoy the actors or relish the cute.
And aside from my issues, the pacing could have used a little help; it was all funny or all heartfelt with no balance between the two. And I wanted a little more romance for Kirsten Bell’s character. If you replace awkward with romance than that’s a much better movie, in my book.
