All the things people are saying about this movie isn’t just hype. If you read Entertainment Weekly it sounds like filming was just a wreck, which makes it all the more amazing that they created such a great, smart, slick, entertaining movie. They tied things around both to the first and second film, while still creating new angles and nuances.

I loved the wrinkle with Nikki having a thing for Bourne. Even better were the subtle parallels they used to create this whole relationship. There was the scene in the diner which echoed the first film so that you could feel how hollow and empty it was. I loved the scene in the bathroom when she was cutting her own hair. The poignant distance between them was all the more interesting because of how acutely she sensed the loss of it.

I loved the parallel at the end, when Bourne was on the rooftop echoing what the other spy said to him in the middle of the field in The Bourne Identity. The thing that made it especially interesting was how it revealed that Bourne has learned more than just facts these past years, he realized what the other guy knew – about what they’d done to them and what it cost them.

I also really enjoyed the way they wrapped the timing all around the second film, starting off with the Moscow police chasing him because of the tunnel crash and weaving in his call to Landey in NY. So smart, and so totally unplanned which makes it all the more remarkable how they pulled it off.
