The Huntsman: Winter’s War

Rating: 3.5 of 5

I really, really wanted to love Huntsman: Winter’s War. Really. Like one of my new favorite movies kind of love.

It’s fantasy action adventure which is like my perfect genre. It’s pretty and well made. It has an AMAZING song in the trailer (and I love good trailers). I wanted it . . . → more

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Rating: 3.25 of 5

One of the things I like best about Age of Ultron is that despite all the previews and hype everywhere, I still went in not knowing what to expect. And I was surprised. I liked that the pacing of the third act wasn’t typical. I liked that it did the unexpected. I . . . → more

Thor – The Dark World

Rating: 4 of 5

I was expecting this movie to be good. I liked the first one a lot (with only a few qualifications) and I liked the character even more in The Avengers. So, yes, I pretty much expected The Dark World to be good. And even then, I was impressed.

Red Dawn

Rating: 2.5 of 5

I have to admit, I guess from the top, that I’ve never seen the original Red Dawn. But I actually didn’t think this movie was half bad.

I’m predisposed not to like Kristen Stewart. But I really wanted to like Snow White and the Huntsman so I hoped, at the very least, she’d be good enough not to ruin it. I thought: Please let her be flat. Please let her be unemotional. I’m ok with either of those. (I . . . → more

The Avengers

Rating: 4.75 of 5

I love Joss Whedon.

Here’s the thing, he has been loved by a small percentage of the population for over a decade. He’s an incredibly talented storyteller; unsurpassed with dialog; great with characters; capable of infusing meaning into a fun story. Now is the moment when everyone else figures out how truly . . . → more

Thor is pretty and big and fun which is good for a summer movie.

There’s some attempt at depth and you’ve definitely got great actors who are capable of it. But it doesn’t really resonate powerfully.

And the romance isn’t developed at all. First of all, Chris Hemsworth is delicious and Natalie . . . → more

Star Trek

Rating: 4.25 of 5

I saw Star Trek this weekend. Loved it. I actually haven’t liked a movie that much in a long time. I just walked out of it feeling happy and whole and refreshed. Probably didn’t hurt that I cried 3 times during it.

Back before anyone had seen the movie I found this . . . → more
