Never Let Me Go

NEVER LET ME GO poster Kiera Knightley

Rating: 1.5 of 5 ★½☆☆☆

As much as I like to see science fiction movies outside the expected tropes of the genre I wouldn’t recommend this one.

There was an interesting mystery that initially drew me in. I wanted to understand what was going on, so the story kept me going for a while. But once answers started coming, they weren’t that compelling or especially surprising and I think it was about half way through I lost interest. There just isn’t enough story to support the film.

Throughout that, I was impressed with the characters at all. The performances are lovely but the characters aren’t deep enough or complex enough to be interesting character. They also aren’t particularly likable, they’re all weak and simplistic and kind of base.

I know several people who were really moved by this film. But I think in order to do that you need to connect with the characters and I certainly didn’t. at all.

It’s lovely to look at though, full of soft colors and English countrysides and what not.
