I’ve never watched a movie as piecemeal as The Lucky One. There isn’t really an entire scene in the whole movie. It’s 2 lines of dialog and moving on. A nice shot of someone running or walking, moving on. Three lines of dialog… I’m not even exaggerating. I think there were maybe . . . → Read More: The Lucky One

This movie wasn’t really what I expected. From the preview I expected a little funny and more sex than there actually was. But it was *really* funny, much funnier than anything I’ve seen in a long time. And not a contrived sort of funny, just a really natural kind of funny.

I am definitely in the minority, and I realize that. Breaking Dawn is on track to make $140M this weekend (proving the power of women at the box office when they’re captivated). Many of them will probably see this two or three times or more, but I didn’t love it.

I’d read the book, and I don’t particularly like Robert Pattinson, and I both loved and hated the elephant. So my curiosity of this movie had me kind of excited to see it.
I really liked how they evoked the time period. It was so beautiful and kind of magical in a . . . → Read More: Water for Elephants

We need more action romances so it becomes its own genre.
As much as I talk about fun work stuff, I try not to get into the nitty gritty of some of it because, honestly, that can spoil some of the fun of it and also tends to create cynicism. But I . . . → Read More: The Adjustment Bureau

The Tourist is a lovely mix of silliness and intrigue and romance. The bad guy isn’t who you expect, or at least not completely. There’re two conceits that you kind of have to just accept (the van and the train), but they’re small and everything else is so fun, I’m perfectly willing . . . → Read More: The Tourist

I think, though still flawed, Eclipse is the best of the Twilight films thus far.
Before I even begin I should say that it’s my favorite book. I like how romantic it is and I like Jacob and Edward talking in the tent and the whole little kerfuffle about gifts.

In some ways, Zach Efron completely makes this movie. And not just because he’s a lot more interesting to watch than Matthew Perry.
The premise is something we’ve seen plenty of before but it manages to be fresh and enjoyable in this incarnation. Partly because it’s well written. Partly because the secondary . . . → Read More: 17 Again

This wasn’t quite as sweet and cute and charming as I’d hoped. Not sure why. I think some things that were intended to be funny or cute just sort of fell flat.

I haven’t read a whole lot of Jane Austen. Honestly, just Pride and Prejudice after I saw the Kiera Knightley movie. So, I could see elements of that story in this film – and was told there were also elements of Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. Which, when rendering an author’s life . . . → Read More: Becoming Jane
