The Lone Ranger

Rating: 2.75 of 5

I almost don’t even want to review The Lone Ranger, I just want to talk about when marketing lies. And it’s rare that I get taken in by marketing. But the trailers were about a sort of silly concept with some outlandish action and a little danger – like something trying to . . . → more

Man of Steel

Rating: 2.75 of 5

It’s not often that my reviews are as colored by other opinions and insights as this one is. But that’s what happens when I wait a week to write it, and in this case I think it makes for a better review.

There was a lot to like in Man of Steel. . . . → more

Red Dawn

Rating: 2.5 of 5

I have to admit, I guess from the top, that I’ve never seen the original Red Dawn. But I actually didn’t think this movie was half bad.

I mean, it was pretty clear from the trailer that this wasn’t going to be a great film. Good trailer, but without much substance to . . . → more

The Lucky One

Rating: 2.5 of 5

I’ve never watched a movie as piecemeal as The Lucky One. There isn’t really an entire scene in the whole movie. It’s 2 lines of dialog and moving on. A nice shot of someone running or walking, moving on. Three lines of dialog… I’m not even exaggerating. I think there were maybe . . . → more

John Carter

Rating: 3.25 of 5

There’s been a lot of speculation about John Carter, if not by you then at least by Kel and me. Is it the sort of movie, as most people expect, that is horrendous – trite and full of weird aliens and special effects but ultimately a lame movie? Because that’s what the . . . → more

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

Rating: 2.75 of 5

I am definitely in the minority, and I realize that. Breaking Dawn is on track to make $140M this weekend (proving the power of women at the box office when they’re captivated). Many of them will probably see this two or three times or more, but I didn’t love it.

The Three Musketeers

Rating: 2 of 5

I have to admit, it was obvious from the trailer that this wasn’t going to be a great movie. But I love the story and I like a lot of the actors and I was so curious I had to go see it anyway. and kind of, it was fun. or at . . . → more

Hanna is an odd little movie. I was really curious to see what Joe Wright would do with an action film because his other movies are so interesting. And it seems like he tried to blend what he does into the action genre (instead of flat out making an action movie) and . . . → more

Life as We Know It

Rating: 2.75 of 5

I liked this movie and I didn’t.

I like Josh Duhamel but he’s more fun when he’s charming and funny and he isn’t as much of either of those in this.

I don’t like Katherine Heigl that much, but she isn’t too bad in this character.

I think my biggest problem is . . . → more

Odd rather fun movie.

I loved the cast! And I mostly liked the characters. I 80% liked the characters, but didn’t full on love them.

But biggest issue for me was that it was slow in between action so it had a hard time holding my attention. Which just made for awkward . . . → more
