Event Horizon

Picture of the week:

Artist Otis Frampton imagines for us what an animated series of BSG might look like.

He even had the decency to draw Helo. I like to think that last bit was just for me.

You can see more of his images here.

Article of the week:

10 Pieces of advice from sci fi and fantasy movies. In regard to #10 – You could probably do a top 10 list of just lines about fear from various movies, books, tv shows. What do you think, shall we try sometime?

#6 and #7 are sound pieces of advice.
#2 is just odd and feels like he’ was trying too hard. And Living well is totally the best revenge.
Also, #1 is not good advice. I’d totally have gone with “Do or do not, there is no try” Much more helpful in the scheme of life.

What sage wisdom have you gotten from sci fi/fantasy movies/tv?

Quote of the week:

It made me more like a painter than ever before. … I’ve been accustomed through my entire career of getting images to match the things I imagine by going through dozens if not hundreds of people or a long period of time. … I got a chance to do so many jobs that I don’t often do as a director.

ok, maybe I cheated a little bit. Hero Complex just released an interview with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson from Comic Con this past summer about Tintin that’s interesting if you are interested in performance capture as a medium. I liked Speilberg’s comparison to being a painter. It reminds me of that quote by Van Gogh, “I no longer wanted to be the painter; I wanted to be the paint.” So I might have cobbled together a few things Spielberg said in this interview and this one to create one, more seamless, quote. Here’s another good one:

Once I saw Peter Jackson as Captain Haddock I knew two things: I was going to run away from live-action but I was also going to run toward Peter Jackson.

Trailer of the week:

Mastermind Joss Whedon brings us a twisty version of a horror movie – and not in the way you’d normally think of twisty in a horror movie sense… it’s more like… you know when you go to the movies… never mind, watch Chris Hemsworth and Fran Kranz
