I went into this film with an open mind. No, that’s a lie. I did go into it wanting to be proved wrong; hoping Peter Jackson would impress me with how he pulled it all off. Didn’t work out so well. The story ends before the title card! I’m sorry that’s kind of a spoiler, but really if it happens BEFORE THE TITLE CARD OF THE FILM can it really be considered a spoiler? If so, then I apologize. I was admittedly rolling my eyes a few times rather liberally after that start. Because my trust in this film was […]
celebrity: Orlando Bloom
The movie list is clearly late this year. I’ll have to think of something wildly interesting to post between this list and the tv list or my blog will have become just hot guys and then more hot guys. One of the great things about the movie list is that it offers variety. Except for pilots and new series, the tv list is a lot of the same guys a lot of the time. But sometimes even our favorites aren’t in a movie every year so the list gets mixed up. Kel let me pick all the pictures this year […]
Be forewarned: my review of the second Hobbit film is kind of vague and philosophical more than my usual analysis. Because there’s not much to say. This has the feel of a story pulled apart and so half formed. There’s new characters but no depth in their relationships or interactions. Tauriel’s relationship with Legolas and his relationship with his father and all the possible intricacies and tension and… we’re given nothing. Even though I think the elves (and the credit song) are the best part of the whole thing. There’s action and great production values, but there was no doubt […]
Photo of the week: I was completely excited about a picture of Luke Evans and Orlando Bloom! Together! In Hobbity-type things. But then it’s not nearly as awesome of a picture as I was hoping for. So there’s two pictures of the week this week.
Well, now we’ve gone and done it. Not content to have a list of the hot guys on tv every year, Kel and I have decided an annual movie list is in order.
There have been a surprising number of articles recently discussing the art of making a movie star (if you consider Feb and March recent in June). It’s an occasionally discussed topic, especially whenever you start comparing the current slate of “movie stars” against the old guard.
I have to admit, it was obvious from the trailer that this wasn’t going to be a great movie. But I love the story and I like a lot of the actors and I was so curious I had to go see it
He’s the face of two blockbuster movie franchies, but Orlando Bloom’s current priority is a small set piece known as family life. It’s a role he loves. 0rlando Bloom dangled three stories above the ground for one frozen, unbearable second. It seemed as if there must’ve been a safety net, a way out. But this wasn’t a movie. It was real life. And it might have ended right there, at age 21. “It was a ‘holy s*’ moment,” the actor says today. He remembers looking down and realizing, “There’s nowhere for my feet to go!” Bloom fell. And everything went […]
What do you think about when you think about The Lord of the Rings? Moments of self-sacrifice and unexpected heroism, which are the twin strands of the trilogy’s DNA. When the people who actually made The Lord of the Rings think about The Lord of the Rings — and we asked a dozen of them, as they hugged and caught up for the first time in years at photo shoots in Los Angeles, London, and Sydney — they remember New Zealand, and the most exhausting, exhilarating years of their lives. To be specific: They remember shooting the very first scene […]
The only review I really have of the theatrical cut is a quote from Entertainment Weekly’s review of Kingdom of Heaven – May 13, 2005. There were a lot of things I liked about it and a lot of things I was
